Ground-up Flat Fender Build

So... we are working on a flatty. Well we have wagoneer axles and a Chevy drivetrain, but there will be some flatty. In all reality I'm just building a 4x4 that will look like a jeep. Not much jeep, but still a fun build. Hopefully I can retain the nostalgia of the icon while still having a modern and reliable 4x4. Enjoy!

I escaped the basement apartment for a few hours to watch Andrew begin assembly of the new motor. Hopefully I can get some more time this week to finish it up.

A little size comparison next to the Rav4.

This is the rod that needs replaced... along with the crank, pistons, rings, and cam bearings. I will be driving it to work soon! Now to decide on a reverse manual valve body or not..?

All tucked in and ready for the move. Thanks for the cover Kevin.

Ready to Move

Pretty weak on the updates lately I know. I have been working on the jeep a little despite the approaching move. I've been trying to get it ready for the move actually. Tow bar and as many of the welding projects I could get too before the welder gets packed away. I am rebuilding a TBI motor and right now and that will be the next step to being able to daily drive it. Paint will come eventually, but I have bigger fish to fry for now.
Got the fenders skinned and a rough cut on the hood today.

More cage work....
and the start of my removable mud flaps. I just need some rubber to hang from them. Well, it's off to storage for the jeep until the motor is built.

The new Jeep is born!

I spent a couple days on this box. I will probably add to it once I figure out what else can be trimmed out of the harness, but it was a good start.

The best part was that I didn't have to push the jeep out front for this photo shoot. Yep, it runs.

I did a big tear down over the last few days. Here it is after the axles, motor, and tranny are back in. I went through and finished up a bunch of welding, and other details on the frame. I have some bracing the add here and there and then it will be time for reassembly. It will all go together and everything will be hooked up to drive it and then at a later date I will tear it down again for paint.
