Ground-up Flat Fender Build

So... we are working on a flatty. Well we have wagoneer axles and a Chevy drivetrain, but there will be some flatty. In all reality I'm just building a 4x4 that will look like a jeep. Not much jeep, but still a fun build. Hopefully I can retain the nostalgia of the icon while still having a modern and reliable 4x4. Enjoy!

These are the lower body mount/rocker protection. The frame rails and rockers are only 1/8" thick so this 1/8" flat bar turned angle iron adds protection and strength.

This shot shows the the flat belly and recessed spring perches.

A friend worked on this filler flange for me and today I was able to finish it up.

I finalized the rear axle location and burned in the "frenched" spring hangers. This was the intention from the beginning, but I had some things to measure before I could finish them.

For a certain Father-in-Law... Yes I still have it and yes it fits great.

A decent overall shot with the chopped windshield and new cowl rubber that came in the mail today. (yes the front frame rails will be shortened up eventually)

After mounting the driver seat I realized I was sitting too low to see through the windshield. Hopefully this does the trick. If you look back to some of my pictures you'll see what I'm talking about.

Future Body

Future Floor

Thanks to friends I got some tires (two of them anyway). Kind of a funky angle though.

Floor has begun to take shape.

No real updates. I took the weekend off with Ashley and didn't work on the jeep at all. A friend at work needed me to look at some stuff on his cj5 so I am driving it for the week. I thought I'd take a couple pictures next to my project for some comparisons.

The seats are going to work well I think.

No More Jackstands

This is pretty close to ride height with 19" of (flat skid) belly clearance. Currently the wheelbase is at 101" but will probably end up at 100" after more suspension adjustments.

The S10 fuel tank is going to work great. I will have to come up with a good skid plate since it hangs a little far back. I wanted to keep the weight low in the frame and also wanted a rear cargo area. If not, I could have raised the tank another 6" and not had to worry about the hang over in the rear.

It look really wide in this picture partly because of the lack of fenders and partly because of the tires. I should have my tires this weekend and then I can fine tune some things.
